One wanted to do ophth in SG, but changed his plan and ventured into aesthetic medicine. Unsuccessful in that, so went to do GP.
Bottom line is residency in SG is really doable. I dont know why some of the UK bros had more friends who failed to get into residency. Also what is the point of comparing with NUS grads having it more difficult in med school and residency?
is it better to sp or do GP? no right or wrong answer. I chose to specialise because I am not good with generalisation. Back when I was in med school, my plan was just to get that med degree and work 4 days a week post HO. After graduation, I wanted to specialise. Both specialists and GP compliment each other. Get that medical degree first. Poor doctors do not exist.
Someone has said that his GP friends are earning 220k pa. I think comparing salaries itself is shallow. These people may have the luxuries of spending more time with their families. I rather spend less and being able to accompany my ageing mom to her hospital appts. A lot of things in life cannot be measured with money. Whatever you choose to do, be it specialisation, Gp or aesthetic medicine, remember your time with family is limited. Choose wisely.

I think both are fine lah. My batch most who returned got what they wanted. Those who became GP also was by choice one

How much passive income you have?
Liquid assets?
Should have enough to retire. But not enough to leave for kids to flourish.

We r a couple in early 50s
Assets (2 landed properties, one in Sg , one in Msia) = S$4.8 mil + S$ 500k
Net liabilities (Sg mortgage debt) = S$ 1.707 mil
Cash = S$500k
CPF = $700k
Total networth = Total assets - Total liabilities
= S$6.68 mil - S$ 1.707 mil
= S$ 4,793, 000
Plus shares S$141k so about S$5mil.
Our passive income now is from rental of our Austin Heights JB semid.
Still looking for tenants.
Passive income from rental about S$1000 plus.

I am the rads AC and I can tell you probably your information is outdated.. yes it used to be less competitive in SG during your time because there’s only 1 med school YLL.
But now there’s NTU and Duke NUS as well. Also many kids go abroad for med school now.
Just had a chat with a fellow FM AC he revealed to me this year alone more than 800 people applied for 150 FM spots.. even FM is competitive now. Don’t even mention specialties like ENT. Even rads has a long waiting list. Had a MO doing his 4th MOPEX posting with us.. he’s still trying to get into rads training.
It’s not that easy now. Aesthetics and GP as well. Very saturated. Not easy to thrive.
Better specialise because it guarantees an iron rice bowl for life

hmm... you seemed to think that NTU and Duke NUS were before our times.
Specialisation does not guarantee an iron rice bowl.

Net worth no point talking only to Hao Lian boast about yourself.
Which I know you enjoy.
Pragmatically unless you plan to downsize and live off savings and rental
You should invest in income type assets.
$1k a month so little rental is pathetic. No wonder you still need to work!
Nothing to crow about saying net worth $5m from buying property.
Many people have more.
But those with liquid assets and dividends is the true way to go.
