Maybe your med school experience is different because generally there’s more foreign docs in London trusts especially St Thomas and they can be quite strict towards med students, especially Indian doctors.
Southampton is more relaxed and the consultants here are more like friends/mentors rather than superiors.

honestly guys feels a lot like singapore hospitals. Even the white consultants tend to run private practices on the side or are well reknowed so they tend to be a bit more mean and will be quite strict. Have to pander to egos a little bit

I am more interested in community psychiatry health so I don’t really like the big city hospitals.
I think I will just train in UK before returning to Singapore. Just have to endure a 13 hour flight home every time, but other than that it’s all good in uk

I am finishing my bond next year, I read that some chains are offering 15-16k/month with 2nights+1weekend morning. Is this true?

Not worth your income stagnates and there’s no way you make more than that unless you open your own clinic which is hard in today’s climate
Better train in FM and enjoy a chill 9-5 life making 300k a yr as a C

Isn’t that quite low? You could make around 25k if u locum but ofc no leave no benefits. Id suggest locum a bit first then once you have some expeirence nego a better offer at 20-22k base which is quite possible. Or you could try aesthetics but if u don’t have the post grad diploma and no COC it’ll take some time but u can start at 20-22k base and can go up from there. Unlike GP ur aesthetics potential ceiling is a lot higher because u can sell high value services and can generate higher revenue per hour

precisely why i decided to study oberseas. In this climate, being a GP seems like a bad financial move + no interest in aesthetics. Gonna train in psych starting next year then come back and make better money with good wlb and more freedom

Honestly don’t even choose medicine if you want to be a GP. There’s so many other degrees than can give you a stable 200k job as a yr equivalent to that of a GP
Legal counsels for example. Director in Singapore stat board for example. Or even a normal banker in middle office like risk management. All can hit 200k/yr easily with enough experience.
You don’t need to be elite tier to make 200k/yr in Singapore

SG very hierarchical structure. U basically have 2 food chains. The lower and upper.
Lower. HO<MO<Resident<Registrar
Upper. AC<C<SC<HOD
Expect to get abused and exploited if u are in the lower food chain. They are gonna make u work to the bone and even nurses won’t show u any respect

Not about wanting to be. Limiting spots in singapore to specialise and bond for 6 years means that most are forced to do it.
