$150k per annum for an AC including bonuses doesn't sound like a lot given the number of hours put in.
When the sc retire or move to pte or ur Dept put up a biz case on why they can justify hiring a new AC headcount

Default Houseman pay

5k is more than the pay (calls included) of an MO before tax deduction.

For housemen, it's about 120SGD per call, so the best you can expect is around 3.3kSGD before tax.

Also, remember you are not reimbursed (for most hospitals) for taking taxis in the morning before public transport opens. This ultimately adds up to around 300SGD a month.

Since starting at a public hospital in SG, she got offered 17k a month starting at consultant level, with bonuses not added in yet.
Your friend is talking ******** - consultant pay in the UK is WAY above £75000 before taxes. And next, consultant base pay in SG is around S$10-12000 (excluding procedures). As a rheumatologist (non-procedural), there is no way she'll be able make that much in Singapore.

Hi everyone,

I'm a current Dermatology resident in US and my MD is from a university listed in the SMC's Second Schedule.

I'm considering the move to Singapore upon completion of residency and attainment of board certification. I have a few questions that I hope you can help me out with:
 1. Dermatology does not seem to be one of the specialties on the list of Registrable Postgraduate Medical Qualification. Does SMC consider Dermatology to be under the branch of Internal Medicine for licensing purposes?
 2. Would I be able to practice independently from the get-go, or do I have to be under supervision for a certain duration? If the latter, how long would I have to be under supervision?
 3. Are there any additional qualifying examinations that I will have to complete, assuming that I am already fully licensed to practice independently in the US/Canada?
 4. What are the typical work hours of Dermatologists in Singapore?
 5. What is the typical income range of a Dermatologist who practices a mixture of medical, surgical (non-Mohs) and cosmetic dermatology?

Thanks in advance.

NUH clarifies admission processes in response to video of staff who allegedly ignored pregnant woman

I thought NUH is one of the better hospitals in Singapore? This is completely unacceptable and points to a decline in Singaporean standards.

Default Questions regarding Dermatology

Hello everyone,

I am a current Dermatology resident in the US, and my MD is from one of the universities listed in SMC's second schedule[/ I am interested in moving to Singapore for practice upon completion of my residency and attainment of my board certification. I have a few questions to clarify:
 1. Can you kindly clarify the differences between an Associate Consultant, Consultant and Senior Consultant? What would someone in my position (board-certified Dermatologist) be considered? Pardon my ignorance, as we do not have such career titles in the US.
 2. Dermatology is not listed as one of the specialties under the Registrable Postgraduate Medical Qualification[/. Would Dermatology qualify under Internal Medicine?
 3. Would I be able to practice independently from the get-go, or do I have to be under supervision? If I have to be under supervision, how long would it be?
 4. What are the typical work hours for a Dermatologist in independent practice?
 5. What is the typical income for a Dermatologists who practices a mixture of medical, surgical (non-Mohs) and cosmetic dermatology?

Thank you in advance.

PS. I created an account to ask the above questions, but my post did not show up, hence I'm re-posting this again. Moderators please feel free to delete either of my post to avoid duplication.

Do you mean the 3.3k SGD includes the on call allowance or excludes on call allowance?

Assuming I have 5 to 6 calls a month, I would be getting an extra of $600 to $700 a month on top of the $3.3k, right?

If that is the case, the pay for a houseman is really quite low roughly around $4k SGD.

May I ask what's the pay for a 1st year MO?

$4950 basic for PGY2 completed NS. Add to that On-call pay $900 or so a month.
Guaranteed AWS and civil service bonus. Plus IPB of 2-5 months.
I earned $92,000 last year. Just passed MRCP which is an extra $6000.

Not unheard of for surgical MOs to earn >100k.

This is very competitive - many of my law friends are earning thereabouts. Hours about the same but crammed into 5 days.
We should be thankful. Remuneration isn't as bad as we think.
So the pay jump from HO to MO aka PGY 2 is really quite significant!
