There's one FM guy with a lot of free time on his hands (I wonder why, polyclinic get too little patients?) to keep rationalising his failure in getting into a real residency. I think its the same guy who was complaining about his low income wife.

Regardless of whatever specialties, I feel sorry for the wife if the husband has to come to an online forum to belittle her.

Is emergency medicine a popular choice for training nowadays?

Shift work. No calls. No sustained in patient load. Fast paced. Specialist. Longer training. Very little private sector potential.
As with all routes pros and cons.
Popular or not also tends to depend on the batch, demand vs supply of training positions.

not hard to get in.
it's attractive becuase dramas make it so exciting but just any other work.

the shift work is quite sian.
do 5 years maybe ok. in your 40s u will regret. every week got 1 or 2 overnight don't sleep gives u the feeling u are perpetually on call.
the adrenaline also kills. heightened sympathetic output for 8 to 12 hours every shift. higher risk of dm, hypertension.
many seniors resort to sleeping tablets.

you work 3 years a junior where u learn the medicine.
last 2 years as a reg where u run the zone and see p1 and pitch in to help where necessary.

sg a&e doctor like every other job is overworked. u do 5 clinical shift a week. I think 5 days regular hours ok la but 5 rotating shifts a week is unhealthy. I rotate as mo 6 months last 2 months body like want to break down, always get the falling sick feeling. went interview for a&e residency also anyhow answer becuSe really don't want to enter.

in Australia, a&e consultant do 6 clinical shift every 2 week and they try to group night shift for u which I think is more sustainable in long term.

FM is a specialty also.

The key word is specialise!

Please dont slack and stuck at mmed or gdfm.
Even if it means delay marriage and kids.
Must chiong all the way if u want to stay in public.
