Default Why does Singapore not have a veterinary school?

Hi!

Question is pretty clear cut: Why does Singapore not have a veterinary school?

1. My current conclusion is that there is the market demand for vets/veterinary service is sufficiently supplied by the Singaporeans who study vet overseas and come back to practice in Singapore.

2. With Singapore's increasing affluence, there is an increasing number of pets, but there is also an increasing number of people studying vet and coming back to Singapore.

3. That being said, it's pretty sad that those who can't afford it cannot study vet and the government probably doesn't feel like this is enough of a reason to start a vet school (given also the lack of a need to deed given market efficiency).

Thoughts?

The demand is very low in Singapore. Education is business in Singapore, low demand means low ROI.

From Financial Times:

Education is still discussed by the city-state’s politicians primarily in terms of economic utility. In his speech in May 2015, Lee Hsien Loong described a conversation with the South Korean minister for education. “We compared notes and I told him in Singapore we try to train people for the jobs they can fill. When our students graduate they find jobs straightaway. He was envious,” Lee said.

Lee went on to note disparagingly that South Korea has more institutions teaching German literature than Germany does: “How many German teachers do you need in Korea?” he asked, pointing out that Korean students with a degree in subjects such as German would face the same problem of youth unemployment as in many other countries.

Set up vet sch is expensive. Easily $300 million, hire professors also expensive.

Much cheaper to let them study overseas and come back to entertain small animals owners
I find doing surgery on cats and dogs a waste of $$$

Why are we spending so much to preserve their life when we are neutering them left right center??

In australia got large scale farming so vets are economically productive.
Singapore no farming.

Not everyone is as privileged enough to have the means to study overseas.
