Hey guys, am graduating in 2023 May

Can ask, under the new scheme, is it DPP and JLC can get called after their 3 year and 2 year stints respectively?

Or must DPP and JLC still do the 1 year tc after they end their dpp/jlc stints?

Thanks

whenever i come here and see this thread so active im quite surprised how come people still slogging so hard aspiring to become lawyers. fretting over TC and workload and bar exams.

im one myself now inhouse and if i were one of you younger people, i wouldn't even bother. not worth it.

legal profession has definitely lost its lustre. i studied law in the early 2010s and that was really the height of its prestige. apart from med, most law students can strut around nus or smu campus feeling prestigious whenever you tell people ur from law. also very easy to xian girls saying tt you're a law student.

back then law starting salaries also highest amongst the GES so quite prestigious. but now other fields like CS have easily overtaken the average local firms' salaries and more importantly cost of living and property hv gone up tremendously. if you're stuck in a local firm as a newbie lawyer, you're literally looking at BTOs rather than dreaming of condos, even if your fiance is also a lawyer. Unless you manage to get an international firm gig.

Rejected from these 2 unis but still wanna study law lo

How is he though? His online profile suggests he is a nurturing boss and an option for me post law school if I want to get involved in non-big-4 significant arbitrations.

Such a naive pov from a naive and simplistic individual. His shallow mindset shows us that not all who practise law truly deserve to be a lawyer.

Honestly, I have done internships in the Big 4, but I have not seen any fellow SUSS interns at all

The lower ranked UKs have, but no suss

Erm I guess u didn’t know that Suss Law Jd is a part time program which means u are able to pay the bills and not be broke like those from the other schools? As far as am concern, NUS is the oldest and most reputable school no doubt, but that’s because it’s “old” and looking at how smu started from scratch, am confident that the government will build Suss law to the best of its potential. In terms of ranking, I really believe that smu and suss is really not that far off internationally. If anyone bothers to check lol.

How about suss and SMU LLBs?

And why compare internationally? If the first step is to pass part B and get called to the Singapore Bar?

Sorry bro, a simple check on LinkedIn is suffice to know that there are a handful that were offered internships and training contract at the big four firms. Didn’t see any doesn’t mean there’s none.

All 3 schools that offers law are eligible for the bar exam.
