Western countries have all sorts of politically correct unwritten diversity quotas that may skew meritocratic selection.

Case in point, Joe Biden's outright commitment to get a black female nominated to the SCOTUS.

Due to culture wars in Western countries, true meritocratic selections are often made subordinate to other priorities that are perceived to be more important such as achieving some kind of racial or gender parity to correct for real or perceived past discriminations.
Putting aside the Joe Biden example, diversity is not at odds with meritocracy and is consistent with it. I’m always curious when people claim that the two are at odds. Without exception they are always men who are part of the majority race in a society. The very people who have never really faced structural barriers in their life and career such as being a struggling mother with kids balancing a legal career (even more so single mothers) or facing the hurdle of navigating systems as a minority. No prizes for guessing who these people (men) are on these forums. Just like how QCs for the longest time always were white men who just happened to deserve it on “merit”. “Merit” is a convenient label for the old boys club. If “merit” doesn’t take into account one’s life journey then it means nothing at all. It’s high time we embraced the benefits of diversity in the legal profession at all levels.

How much do litigators make? Associate director level?

Have a cousin who works as litigator but associate director for about 3 years now or so.
Asking because he acts like he earns 30k a month

He’s lying. Unless he is at an offshore firm. Otherwise he is probably not even earning half of that but requires validation that he made the right choice career wise so he acts like he is rich.

How can sinkie lawyers operating in second rate sinkie courts deserve more than offshore

when our sinkie CJ are plagiarising from UK courts
its as tho a poorly done o level summary with paraphrasing here and there

Sundaresh Menon CJ, Judith Prakash JA and Woo Bih Li J, [2020] SGHC 255
had also lied to the DT, which found her “a deceitful witness, who tailored her
evidence to portray herself as an innocent victim who had been maligned”

MRS JUSTICE GLOSTER, DBE, [2012] EWHC 2463 (Comm)
"an unimpressive, and inherently unreliable, witness, who regarded truth as a transitory, flexible concept, which could be moulded to suit his current purposes. At times, the evidence which he gave was deliberately dishonest; sometimes he was clearly making his evidence up as he went along in response to the perceived difficulty in answering the questions in a manner consistent with his case; at other times, I gained the impression that he was not necessarily being deliberately dishonest"

Default Salary

1PQE corp assoc in a small practice. Monthly salary in the high $4k.

I know I’m really underpaid but generally work is ok, I like the partners I work with, but just feel that things aren’t really progressing and I’m hitting the glass ceiling already.

I recently dual qualified and passed QLTS. FCH from a not so reputable school.

Hope to move to Big4/bigger firms in 2023. What salary should I be looking at.

Then what is AD pay.

AD in Drew is not junior partner level for other Big 4 yet right? More like A&G's Counsel
