Pitiful fellow you are. Perhaps you can enlighten us…you Didn’t get a JLC offer and now just salty? Or didn’t get an FCH Such that didn’t even have a chance to apply?

I know one who went JLC, corp, then now in legal tech.

Cute
JLC skews you towards legal service or judicial service lah.

that's how it is.

But if you want to move out into the private sector to do disputes or whatever after the end of your JLC term, I don't see why it's an issue.

I'm not really sure I get your point. What exactly is your analysis here. Surely it can't be that JLC puts you at a disadvantage as compared to non-JLC high fliers in the legal sector right? The way I see it, having a JLC-ship surely cannot be a bad thing, only a good thing.

If you say it doesn't guarantee success, nothing guarantees success what. Success is multi-faceted.

Having a JLC on your CV is something many law grads will kill for. So I'm not sure what exactly your point is?

If your end goal is corp, better off gaining practical experience at a top firm than spending 2 years as JLC. Candidates who can apply for JLC already have a good resume and don’t need whatever perceived prestige from being JLC

It's very selective and there are only limited slots each year. Being among the top of your cohort merely qualifies you for the interview with the judges. You need to impress them to get offered.

That one didn’t stay long in practice. I’ve known a couple of JLCs who stayed in corporate practice - one is in Ashurst, another is at A&G. These tend to be few and far between though.

Many over the years. Some examples - Victor Yao, Kenneth Tay, Keith Han, Jordan Tan at CC, Emmanuel Chua hsf, Faraaz amar Sidley. Your poor research skills explain why you are neither JLC or international firmz.

Most likely they didn’t apply for JLC to pursue greener pastures elsewhere (international firms in SG or overseas). Becoming more and more common for top students.
