$2000, but increasingly firms are offering $2.5k. Btw, you usually start your Training Contract before you get the results of your bar exam (as you start right after your exams), you don't need to first pass the bar exam. If you are asking whether trainees get a payrise after their bar exam results are released, the answer is No.

However, note that since the trainee period is going to be increased to 1 year, there are rumours that firms will pay trainee rate for only 6 months, and legal executive rate (which is usually at least 4k) for the next 6 months.

I forgot to caveat that this is for midsize to b4 firms.

For small firms (such as the chinatown outfits), the previous going rate for trainees should be from 1-1.2k at the low end, to 1.5-2k at the mid-end.

However, increasingly, even the small firms try to pay at least 2-2.5k to attract more applicants. This is due to the scarcity of trainees/junior lawyers now, meaning that many small firms sometimes have 0 applicants.

Hi, I'm a year 2 in a local u and I will be applying for contracts this summer. Anyone can confirm that CC increased trainee pay?

Their website shows:
First year trainee: $80K annual ($6.3K monthly)
Second year trainee: $100K annual ($8.3K monthly)

My senior said it was $72K ($6K monthly) and $90K ($7.5K monthly) respectively last year.

What is the chance that BMWL will match this increase? The last post on this forum said that they are paying $3K monthly for first year trainees and $8K for NQ (equal to second year trainee in CC).

Good. Many of these small firms are overall poor career choices to work in and have lousy cases and deals, not to mention exploitative SME culture. It's good the tide is turning against them. They should in fact be paying more than large firms, as a way to compensate the trainees/junior lawyers for the disadvantages of working there.

What a pointless question. Are you going to let this dissuade you from applying for CC? Because having a high trainee salary is important to you? And if you do get the CC offer, you would be told then what the salary is. If it's really so bad, then turn it down for Baker (assuming you get the Baker offer as well)?

If you're a male, just above 4k (because you did NS), if you're female, a few hundred less.

You "make" up your pay (compared to private sector) by getting larger "civil service" bonuses, but you'll still be earning less than the current b4 salary.
