Seconded. There is a screenshot of some snippets of it on Singaporelawmeme insta page. But not the full FB post which I'm also curious to read about.

Somebody reproduce the post here pls, without identifying the author.

does our class of honours actually affect our starting pay?

is it normal for lawyers from mid sized firms to jump to b4? and normal for young lawyers in B4 to leave for mid sized?

People need to stop treating these categories as some sort of fixed regime that lawyers are subject to. It is after all just a job much like any other job in any other industry at the end of the day, where employers are looking for individuals with certain skill sets. You develop your own set skills and bring them where employers seek.

You don’t magically get to transition from “mid sized” into “big4” or vice versa as a rite of passage / some sort of career progression normality (although admittedly headhunting is fairly prominent). It very much depends on the skill sets you possess, your career goals and what employers are looking for. Imo you’re doing yourself a disservice by treating your career as some sort of tick boxing exercise.

Any info on mid sized firm’s salary progression? Think TSMP, SLB, Khattarwong, etc.

Oh pls la. Don't be some sage here hailing from heaven. Even if your skills are top-notched, employers may still lowball and have different price valuation on you. Career progression means more money. If not, if your firm increases your pqe but your pay stays the same, u song boh?

What's the point of career goals if always get bullied and there is no pay raise. Really sia, humanities/arts students are really artsy fartsy, airy fairy.

OP here. I apologise but your inner insecurities are overflowing. In no sense did I imply that you should accept a “lowballing” (whatever this term seems to suggest) employer. All that was suggested was there isn’t a rite of passage for one’s career progression (which was in response to the previous post), and the legal industry, like any other industry, requires one to develop one’s own set of skills that would be in demand.

Even taking your assumption (i.e., you have top-notched skills and your present employer is “lowballing” you), it literally suggests that you will be able to bring yourself to another employer in the market that doesn’t “lowball”, because you have top-notch skills. All the best.

Default Jail for ex-lawyer who scratched, injured CNB officers in struggle during arrest

SINGAPORE - A former lawyer who developed a drug habit from 2017 scratched a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officer in the neck during his arrest and left the officer with wounds that required a battery of blood and other medical tests.

The 32-year-old also swore at the CNB personnel and put up a violent struggle, injuring four officers in total before he was restrained.

The accused was HIV-positive at the time.

The officer who was scratched underwent six HIV tests and has been declared HIV-negative.

The former lawyer was jailed one year and 22 weeks after he pleaded guilty to drug consumption, possession of drug apparatus and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty.

Another three similar charges were taken into consideration.

Any rumours about this guy? Sounds like he hit rock bottom doing pro bono work..

I know who this person is. But there is a statutory restriction on disclosing his identity after all. You're not going to get any more info from any self-respecting lawyer here.

Default Bankrupted

I am keen to do restructuring and Insolvency work. Any recommendations on who would be a good mentor? I am currently a finance associate at a big 4 outfit, and have some experience working on such files.
