Bear in mind that most academia job is contract job. Meaning once the term ends, if NUS doesnt renew the contract, you can pack up liao. Of coz there is such thing as tenure, but it's very difficult to get.
Also research funding is quite limited as most funding goes to more trendy, sexier, hotter areas like material science, chem, medical, semiconductors, robotics, comp sci etc. Soft science like law, you can expect funding akin to that of FASS

Don't worry about lack of retention now.. Most firms are literally begging for associates due to the lack of NQ-5PQE level assocs. As long as you're accepted, and you don't quit, most firms are more than willing to retain you.
It's finally a seller's market, enjoy it.

Saw that Baker just completed another big Indon restructuring in Singapore. Anyone got insights? Their restructuring department good to join? The partner good to work for? What's the pedigree like?
I am also considering others like BO and R&T, but wondered if anyone has any views.

One drawback I can think of with increasing salaries is that the disconnect between private practice pay and inhouse pay, if one goes in house, will be wider than it is now.
This is thinking more for the new batches of lawyers and doesn't affect me since I'm not in that category.
When I moved from a Big 4 to inhouse, I took a considerable paycut. With expectations set to be drawing approximately 7k for NQ right off the bat and 10k for 3 PQE, you'd take an even heftier paycut if inhouse salaries don't match. Plus the annual increments are nowhere on the level of private practice.
To the juniors: save and/or invest your salaries well right at the outset, in order to set yourself up for transition to inhouse, should you decide to.
