Yeah FMS is like advocacy, show up get the pass mark liaoz. It's only if you want to get Civ Pro distinction, then you need to get FMS distinction first, which is damn ridiculous because it's so subjective.

But if you're aiming just to coast by, u literally just need to not scold your fake client or completely ignore multiple court deadlines.

It’s good to have some part b distinctions
I know some ppl on the commendation list now in magic circle / US biglaw even though local grad only.

It’s a dick measuring contest. After the first couple of years of practice that **** doesn’t matter anymore - commendation awards don’t necessarily translate into lawyering skills.

Unless you're a girl, in which case just snag a rich husband and go the typical sinkie gold-digging female route.

this is why I say law should be taught at the JD and not LLB level in Singapore. Too many slacker and unmotivated lawyers running about pulling down the quality of our profession. A fully post-grad law system will weed out those kids who don't genuinely want to be lawyers and excel in this field
The problem will still exist no matter the level of education, but perhaps to a lesser extent. There will be graduates who will not know what to do and just do a JD - look to USA as an example.

Not sure why you’re kicking up a fuss though. If you are good the market will reward you regardless of the number of “slackers” out there.

I didn’t say it is the be all end all of things.
But just as people here are so enamored by Oxbridge and Harvard, having the distinctions can help if you are eyeing for the magic circle and US biglaw.
Just advising juniors out here to take part b seriously that’s all

LOL forgot to include document? the guy should be given a 'fail' straightaway if Part B is supposed to be worth any salt.

U guys never heard the story of the associate who forgot to serve something on e-liti for a trial and was fired immediately? In a famous SC's team. several years back.

Nothing complicated. Very straightforward story.

Associate involved in a trial. A document was filed on e-liti but not served. It was assoc's responsibility to ensure. Opponent obviously objected and/or claimed that it was not received. Document not admitted.

SC told the associate he/she need not return to the office.

Happened in a big 4 firm.
