Usually applications to the larger firms take around 1 month before they are reviewed (and any interviews scheduled - with the exception of firms like Wongp that generally like to interview asap), so you can expect a lead time of around 1.5 mths from applications to knowing the results (1mth processing, 1 week later interview, 1 week later results).

If you got 3 months notice period, means u need a 4.5 mth lead time. If your notice period is shorter, then adjust accordingly.

1 mth, but the team is severely short handed. No admin support, trainees or other assocs. The files and matters need a lot of handing over. Probably need to give even longer notice for transition.

What about application to firms like SLB, DRD? Anyone has thoughts about WP Corp or Eng&Co’s Corp team?

Basically, if notice period is 1 month, then you only need to serve 1 mth. Any longer "notice" is really dependent on how much you like your current firm and partners. Remember once you tender you're the "guy that's leaving" (i.e. no good opportunities will be given to you, maybe more work thrown to you to deal with). If you got good relation with the boss, don't want them to be sad or short-staffed, by all means go tell them abit earlier. But if your boss is the vindictive type or the type that likes to immediately tie up loose ends (i.e. you tell them you want leave Jan, but he fire you immediately type), then maybe hold off on giving notice?

If the company only asks for 1 month notice, that means that they believe you are replaceable in 1 month, so I wouldn't give additional notice unless I am sure it won't come back to bite me in the ass.

Generally, SLB responds faster (1-2 weeks), DRD response rate fluctuates.

Giving longer notice than required is a double-edged sword. It really depends on your relationship with your partner(s). If they are the nice/chill type, go ahead and give them a longer heads up.

But also consider - Are they the vindictive type? Will they pile you with work to extract the last bit of value from you? What if they want to make a clean break and instantly fire you (while you are still searching or have a waiting period before transitioning to the new job)?

The notice period is there for a reason, it is supposed to be a reasonable amount of time for you to handover the work and for them to find a replacement. It's not like, if they were to fire you, that they would be willing to extend your notice period for you to search for a job.

Shook Lin replies quite fast (1-2 weeks max usually), DRD is average speed (but depends on need/dpt).

WongP's corp team is female-dominated, not saying it is good or bad, but you should be prepared to work in such an environment if offered.

This is the funniest post I've seen in a while.

Congrats on being born (or having cultivated) a funny yet warped sense of humour.

Who cares about handover lah. Apply to A&G and take the real corp job asap. Just stick to your contractual notice. If DRD might as well stay where you are.

Firms tend to still survive whether short handed or not. These things have a way of working out on their own. Junior lawyers tend to justify their worth by justifying how important they are and if they leave the firm will somehow magically crumble.
This is not how it works in the real world. Get real.
One person leave a job, there are 5 others who will do it for the same cost or even lower cost.

Yeah, juniors are so worthless and always have strawberry mentality. They deserve even lower pay. Can’t wait till legal salary pay is $2-3k.

Worry not. Partner have 2 hands. Left hand handover to right hand, right hand handover back to left hand.
