I rmb those days. The 2014 to 2016 call batches was the start of the glut.
Those were bleak times man. Many lower tier foreign grads couldn't get TCs. Luckily I studied in NUS but even then my NUS peers were pretty worried about the TC situation, even those average second uppers.
Lots of fear mongering and newspaper articles about glut of lawyers too. That's when Minlaw, being ever reactive, decided to tighten the screws and delist a bunch
Anyway, I knew quite a few lower tier foreign grad friends who didn't go on to practice or started in small/no-name firms, got disillusioned and left law. But generally they went on to do other interesting things la.
Most of them were rich or at least upper-mid class though. So being 3 to 4 months out of job while they figured out what they wanted to do wasn't really painful for them. More like an extended holiday with a safety net.
But i suppose such is life. If your family's rich, you never have to really worry.

maybe get called first and get a job and chase a few clients for bills first before telling people they have no idea how law firms work in practice

OP shouldn't feel bad about his foreign degree.
It's about making the best of what you have. If you only apply to certain prestigious firms and totally discount smaller reputable ones, you do yourself a great disservice.
Get one foot in the door first, then be tenacious enough to move up thereafter. Many of my classmates/seniors/friends have done it. It's not impossible.

there is pride in helping individuals and I personally find joy in my work. Please respect and limit your “debates” to grads only, don’t come and insult us

Unless you studied in Oxbridge or LSE, you have no right to feel like a "successful person" for studying law overseas. The fact that you did not study in NUS or SMU means that you are already intellectually worse than 50% of the law aspirant cohort of your batch, since these 2 schools are more competitive than other foreign law schools on the scheduled list sans Oxbridge.
As a matter of fact, your default state should be to feel like a "failure" and work your way upwards from there.

Lmao I graduated from a **** school in the UK and was constantly told I wasn't as good as NUS / SMU / London / Oxbridge. I'm done fine now, as good or if not better than these folks, so **** the haters.

Why do people on this forum feel the need to make such asinine comments? After you’ve been in practice for a few years, your university does not matter as much anymore. Employers value you based on your experience and quality of work. Whether you studied in NUS, Oxbridge or other universities in the UK/Aus has little to no bearing on the value you bring to a firm.
Ironically, MC and US firms take a liking to candidates who studied in the UK because a number of the partners are British, whether it’s for the London, SG or HK office, and it helps with establishing a rapport, stronger “cultural fit” and whatnot.
I got rejected by NUS and SMU. I went to what posters on this forum would consider a second tier degree mill UK University. I’m earning the new Davis Polk scale (with cravath scale bonuses) and my target hours are lower than what a Big 4 Associate is expected to pull. I don’t consider myself a “successful person”, but I don’t think I’m a failure either.

Not sure, but NUS is the best according to QS rankings.
