You'll get white shoe never without a First Class Honours unless you came from the Magic Circle.

For better prospects I would suggest you try the US schools as you will have the option of working in the States and then transfer to SG laterally or apply to SG directly.

The White Shoes are typically but not invariably more 'elitist' than the Magic Circle. They hire from the Magic Circle, though.
Thank u for ur advise! Yes i get my law LLB in China and want join either MC/white shoes office in Singapore. Can expect to receive acceptance from T14 JD/llm in US or NUS JD in 2021. If the job chance is fair prefer NUS since US is in a mess now.
But after ur post Sounds like i d better choose the former JD.

I don't think we've seen the worse of the downturn yet.
Firms will likely continue to remain cautious over the next year.

Prospective trainee here. If I choose to train in family law (due to passion, interest etc) and realise that it’s not my cup of tea, what are the exit options? Assuming that I’ll be exposed to contested divorce cases.

never do just one thing.
Also, if you are asked to do only one thing - refer to training checklist.

do fam/gen lit in a 80/20 arrangement. That way if you realize you absolutely hate fam, you can make the transition into other areas. Most firms known for fam do also handle gen civ lit cases.

Thanks for the input. If I were to get out from Fam law to gen lit at 2-3 PQE, how many years of PQE would I have to forfeit?
