To clarify what I meant in the previous post was that my friends who used to be at those two firms continued to draw the low-ish SG salary even after they became MLS and WKW.

Here are a list of sources anyone in the international arena should read before making sweeping statements that "it is not hit" or "it is not hit as hard". All talk, no facts, like it's the gospel truth. BOTH the US and UK firms are massively hit. There are a few possible outcomes:
(a) the firms are no longer profitable
(b) HQ already announced pay cuts, freezing, retrenchments globally and we are sitting ducks waiting for HQ orders.
(c) the international clients you service together with your UK/US counterparts can no longer afford sky high gravy train fees.

Might not be a bad thing, seeing as they are leaner and won't be axed in lieu of a NQ doing internatiomal work who gets overpaid.

Lots of talk about salary here. But has anyone wondered whether money is truly the be all end all? What about work life balance?

There isn’t such a thing as work-life balance for first year associates.
Life will get easier down the road especially when you pivot towards in-house counsel.

Is getting scolded as a junior assoc normal?

Yes it’s normal to get scolded and belittled in this highly toxic industry
I wonder why has lawsoc / judiciary do anything about these mental abuses incidents after all these years.
we are really behind UK OZ in addressing such issues.

Yes. I still remember those years I hardly get any sleep during my first 5 years.
All I faced daily was getting scolded and butchered

Big 4? How bad is the scolding? I know some places don't scold
