Mostly losers who can't make it locally go to HK, then find a chance to jump back local a few years down.

Working hours are crazy. Average 2am daily. Culture is hard work and no life.

Salary is ok.

Don’t believe the above poster, he’s just salty about not getting to work in HK.

Mostly losers who can’t make it in HK work locally, then try and find a chance to jump to an international firm.

Working hours are the same. Average 9pm daily. Culture is work hard play hard.

Salary is on the international firm scale (i.e. miles higher than what you’ll get in SG big 4).

Is it true that many try to jump from HK to international firms in Singapore after some years? How are the prospects of jumping from e.g. A&O in HK to A&O in SG?

Those getting 3.5 probably did not get a pay raise since NQ (or they may have a commission component in their remuneration).

Smaller firms may start at 3.5/3.8/4.0 at NQ level and give a 300 to 500 raise every year. There are also mid-sized firms with similar basic pay but supplement it with a frontload bonus to bump up the monthly pay to 4.8 to 5.5 for a 2 PQE.

This is very relevant for overseas graduates to understand your prospects upon graduation in international firms -

Why will u jump from Allen & Overy HK to Allen and Overy SG? You will probably get a pay cut of around 50%. From a salary perspective, most will not do that, unless you are returning to SG for your family.
