To show you that overseas universities has better prospects in the long run, I have compiled the list of founders/senior partners/managing partners of major law firms in Singapore and their respective first degrees. Feel free to add to the list.

30 years ago it was easy to go far with a cheap degree from King's, Bristol or Leicester. How many cheap degrees grads will make it to the top in the next 30 years?

Anon above clearly has an irrational bias against king's and is trolling. Proof that it stills open more doors than NUS or SMU, even today.

If you widen the threshold to include those who go overseas for their LLMs, the list gets longer.

To that idiot from the degree mill that is King's. All those people you mentioned, with the exception of Alvin Yeo, did not come from a cheap uni like King's. Please don't confuse Oxford/Cambridge with the likes of your cheap uni.

Interesting observation - to be a big four Managing Partner/CEO or deputy (various nomenclature), it pays to have a Oxbridge degree (whether as a first degree or as a subsequent postgraduate degree). I didn’t realize this until some of the posters mentioned.

Does NUS have the placement power to generate starting salaries of 180000 USD base salary a year at the beginning of a graduate's career?

You must be a very lousy oxbridge lawyer. Having the “placing power” to generate starting salaries of 180000USD does not address king’s 65% acceptance rate of applicants and that 50% of law grads are awarded Firsts. When tom dick or harry from innova or rjc can’t get into a local law school because he or she scored AABB in the A levels, the backup option is to enroll in a degree mill where FCH is guaranteed upon enrollment.

Last post since comment above is clearly meant to wind ppl up.

The point of a degree mill is that it is: (i) easy and (ii) worthless.

Yes, it is easier than a NUS degree but that leads to the conclusion that it's an inefficient route to work so hard at NUS when my label is going to be the same as the top 50% of king's (no idea if this stat is even true).

The fact that it's not worthless stacks this against NUS even more because placement of an easier degree--> higher paying job with greater option value really makes it questionable that it's a degree mill.

For what it's worth, i have a first class law degree from oxbridge at UG—no need your validation.

50% first class is very good. Since it is rather easy to get a 1st from kings, and if your goal is a 1st, I think it is a smart choice.

But kings is no degree mill. You still have to sit for a 3 years course and their exams. Not degree mill.

We shouldn't be jealous of their first class, even if we have a second lower from nus. U made the choice four years ago.

Everyone knows nus awards less first class as a percentage of total cohort, and can be quite stingy with their 2nd upper., and since you were admitted with the knowledge and out of your own volition, it doesn't make sense to say that kings is a degree mill simply because you failed to get first or 2nd upper in nus.

We are responsible for our decision. You chose nus, didn't do that well. And now complain that kings people get their degrees from a mill?

You should have studied harder in nus
