Honestly the government should just renegotiate CECA to include lawyers, most of you whining NUS grads can't even hold a candle to foreign-trained talents like Harvard educated Jamus Lim.

The mid-sized firm which I'm training at has just offered to retain me. But the probation period is 6 months or a longer period which the firm may in its "absolute discretion" decide. Is this normal?

Depends. Did they have a discussion with you saying your performance is borderline?

The firm may be trying to protect itself in the event the economy doesn't improve.

Retirement planning?

When you are deciding to become a lawyer, you ask practicing lawyers for advise and views on what it is like to be a lawyer.

When you are deciding to become a doctor, you ask practicing doctors for advise and views on what it is like to be a doctor.

When you are deciding to become an engineer, you ask practicing engineers for advise and views on what it is like to be an engineer.

When you are deciding to retire, you ask a financial advisor for advise and views.

Say what!?
