Don't think other firms have an equivalent.
It was formed years ago for that purpose, but I don't think that's the case anymore. I think can consider it a commercial litigation team, with some CA stuff.

This comment is not meant to be an insult. Its just that people generally make terrible decisions when faced with desperation.
Not getting into NUS Law does not equate to an academic failing. Many successful lawyers and in house counsels and professors have graduated from universities other than NUS Law. There is even a judge who graduated from Flinders - i didn't even know such a university existed until i appeared before said judge and googled him. Our civil procedure practitioners books are written by a graduate from nottingham university.
My point being. You are not yet at death's door. You still have a year to get a training contract - it is not too late to make a decision as to your future at that time. Focus on sending out applications for TCs. Send out a few everyday. Send out to every single law firm you can find on google - it's what i did. Be tenacious. Be persistent.
Do not be desperate.
A masters is not worth it. Don't waste your parents hard earned money on another year of no guarantees.
|
Why do you have to send out so many applications given your stellar job prospects being an overseas graduate?

That team only hires from the JLC pool.
If you were not even a JLC before or have an oxford BCL, you stand zero chance

You're clearly trying to make a reference to an imaginary person. I don't believe the Harvard Graduate bloodline will be sullied by some moron who cited selective bias and then admits he doesn't know what selective bias is

Lol. Are you that argumentative in real life?
Anyway a Harvard grad whether his/her first degree is from NUS or other universities is set for life. It’s a waste of time deciding if that Harvard grad is a imaginary person, a sham, a cloak or a facade. Focus on more important things, like your own well-being, whether you’re being financially enriched since the lifespan in law is pretty short (by 40 it’s either partnership or leave the profession and fade into oblivion).
All the best!

I oso graduated from Harvard summer school for botany during my school term at NUS where I didn't get a first. I Havard grad like Tyra Banks and Donald Trump. Now can tell clients.
#setforlife #merit
Thanks for your well wishes, appreciate it. You seem like a nice person, I shall stop asking whether your IQ objectively represents your background since it raises questions about how imaginary OP got into Harvard.

I think that here, going for SGCA stuff mostly means your clients can afford it. There's a certain kind of prestige attached to it but I don't think it necessarily means you're a super lawyer who dunks all over "trial" lawyers. Most litigation folks will do both trial and appeals work, especially since you can have trials in the lower courts that end up in High Court appeals etc.
I suspect that actually having a plate full of matters that go to trial will stand you in better stead than a bunch of SGCA matters. SGCA generally involves a lot of prep work/written work, but your day in court is comparatively brief, whereas trials can go on for ages. And for the firm, at least, the real metric of your success is what you bring in, and you can generally bill full time costs for trials, so a trial might be better for your numbers at the end of the day than an SGCA matter.
