Can ask how those couples with one spouse who is a non-lawyer settle the pay disparity
As the couple trudges along, the pay differential will continue to surge
How do u all talk about your expectations?

Prestige is relative. In Singapore and HK yes. In the US and London market, not really.
In US, they are probably on par with DLA Piper, K&L Gates. Remember they started off as a Chicago firm, not a NY firm so there's a historical prestige disadvantage. Check out the Vault 100, they are ranked no. 31.
In London, they are probably less prestigious than the silver circle (Herbert Smith, Ashurst) or Hogan Lovells.
In SG, Baker is seen as quite prestigious.

Agreed generally regarding the US and UK markets. For Singapore, it is department dependent. Litigation and arbitration in Baker is probably like a third tier, similar to non-disputes focused mid sized firms like Shook Lin. Tax, IP in baker probably one of the best, on par if not better than big 4. Corporate in baker, maybe same as TSMP and the likes.

TBH, to have to 'monitor' the gf, isn't that as good as partially or greater, conceding to the fact that either the choice or the choices made were as good as crap?

Not a troll...genuinely interested to know. I am a junior lawyer contemplating this existential question as well. Lunches and dinners at the desk, late nights, burnt weekends and holidays, borderline depression half the time, non-existent social life.
