It's about how badly you want in.

This is not true. Once you have accepted a low starting salary, you cannot price yourself up anymore. If your starting pay is $3.5k, what makes you think a firm will want to pay you more? It is difficult to have large increments unless your base was high to begin with.

I agree. i think the minimum for a NQ cannot be lower than $4.0k. Otherwise, do other random work also better than. Once you start low, you will need a few hop before you are back on track.

The few non-oxbridge/London grads i know who've made it to Big4 on their own merit are all FCH accompanied with other outstanding accolades.
It may be wise to apply to Big4 but also spam applications to mid to small size firms.
If you don't mind lesser pay, there are a few statutory/government agencies for which legal work constitutes relevant legal training/training.

The Prejudice is warranted. Seriously it's not hard to get into SMU or NUS law. We aren't even talking about intelligence, just studying for A levels which is about as rote as it gets.
If you're from the top JCs like RJ and HC, local law school is in fact the absolute minimum you should be qualifying for. Anything less than that is gross underperformance. Average to above average performance will be getting into NUS medicine, or oxbridge / Ivy League and ministry scholarships.

What is the median starting salary for NQ lawyers these days? Also, what is the average year-on-year increment for lawyers?

This is either horrifically elitist or a simple failure to have perspective. I hope it's the latter.

Must be written by some disgruntled RI/ HCI dude who couldn’t get into law/med, oxbridge or ministry scholarship. Extremely hilarious...

For medium size firm (20-50 lawyers), there are really only a few locally and you can count them on two hands: TPC, CNP, TKQP, Bird & Bird, KCP, TSMP, Harry E, Lee & Lee, KW.
At that tier your starting should be no less than S$5,000.

lol, you are either very old senior lawyer or not in law at all.
The current market is not "At that tier your starting should be no less than S$5,000". You should be happy if you can get between 4-4.5. Even big is only at 4.8 you think 5 is possible.

Heh. Unlikely.
If you go into contract negotiations with this frame of mind, you should be thankful if the partners don't laugh in your face. It's an employers market now, unfortunately.
