The decline of the big4 corp practices is proceeding as expected. Perhaps its time for minlaw to review the QFLP.

Default clifford chance working culture

i'm currently making a decision whether to start working in singapore or work in the UK instead, and have applied to a few firms in both.

could anyone tell me what the working culture is like in Clifford Chance Singapore (particularly as a trainee, though associate is also fine)? i'm far more familiar with the UK firm culture, so this would help me make a decision.

Just work in the UK if you get the chance, its the good life.

Also, you can easily move to SG from the UK if you find you don't enjoy it there but its not as easy vice versa.

All this rush to prestige grade Aaa office buildings is so lame. Doesn't bode well for the one moving to One Marina soon. Must cost them an arm and a leg.
It’s Marina One though fool...

i agree, but

1) isn't CC in singapore quite good?

2) i've calculated and based on tax regime / living costs of living in london, i don't earn that much more in the UK compared to SG

3) hard to make friends with brits lol, in my time there i much preferred the intls

also regarding Marine One, a source told me that the rent there was much cheaper owing to the landlord needing to fill spaces ASAP. that precipitated the move.

1) As good as it may be in the Singapore market, its the equivalent of working in say Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill instead of A&G Singapore. Its always better to work where the shot callers are, especially for career progression and job security. E.g. in a financial downturn, do you think firm leaders will be more prepared to axe the lawyers a few doors down from them or those in a far flung (and most likely less profitable) office.

2) During your TC you might not be saving much more than in SG (largely due to housing costs - but do you really want to be living with your parents in SG until your early 30s?), but at NQ and above your salary will quickly outstrip those in SG. And if you can make it as partner at a top firm in London, your income will be astronomical compared to any SG firm.

3) Plenty of international people in London. Very cosmopolitan city.

what makes u think the brits want to hang out with them? singaporeans congregate in a pack like hyenas whenever they go overseas to work or study, except for the few SPGs hoping to score a white/non-asian boyfriend. its a well known fact. even the hongkies can't stand us.
