I was accepted into the SMU JD program, I applied on a whim without thinking I'd get in. I am very conflicted on whether to accept or not since I don't really know if this will open doors for me in future.

I don't plan to practice law, nor do I envision living in Singapore long term.

I would, however, like to go into arbitration or legal consultancy (either in Singapore or abroad).

Am I just being incredibly silly wasting 3 years doing a JD or do you think it will be a good foundation for going into arbitration or legal consultancy?

Any viewpoints will be helpful

Thank you.
What's legal consultancy? What's "going into arbitration but not wanting to practice law"?

Do you even know what you're talking about? Sorry to be blunt but you don't have the slightest inkling about what your degree entails, what entry and exit options there are, what you actually want, and what the legal and legal-related industries are.

Very surprising that SMU accepted you.

Between NUS and LSE, which one is better?

Deciding between the two. Heard that LSE grads arenít that good as compared to NUS grads... in a law firm context.

LSE should be better.
There is more first class and second upper graduated per cohort.

Goes to show their students are better.

I donít see that many First and Second Up from NUS.

in fact iíve seen quite a lot second lower nus grads. wonder if these people ever study.

Seriously for those asking about smu jd, or student/trainee asking career in law etc, i personal think that you are not suitable to be in law. cant you just go through the thread and read urself. Same qns have been asking for over a million times. If you cant even read through and find the answer, you have actually failed the basic of lawyering - to find answer.

Move on and dont do law. It is not suitable for you.

Depends, do you want the chance to work for CC, Freshfields and Linklaters? Then go for LSE without a doubt, if you are happy with big 4 then just go NUS. Canít go wrong either way.

very disappointed I must say. I did not make much mistake but always got picked on.

now today sheíll just told me i am not cut for lawyer career.

all the things I used to believe in since school work hard , dedicated , patient, loyalty. all goes into drain when you have a boss who just take you as a punching bag.
Iím not surprised. The editing that your boss must have done to correct your grammar...

My esteemed colleagues, can we bring the discussion back to NUS law girls vs SMU girls?? This is the only avenue where I can vent both my work and sexual frustrations simultaneously without attracting a sexual harassment lawsuit
