Currently in a dilemma where I want to break tc and change firms. In a mid sized firm doing liti and while my team is alright, the office culture downright sucks. The HR and secretaries and typical ah lians who gossip about trainees and snitch to the bosses. The other team is also very bitchy and none of the assocs make an effort to interact with the trainees. Am thrown straight into the deep end as well and asked to write appeal subs without given a template to work with. Turnover rate is very high. None of the assocs from last year stayed.

Try your best to stay and finish if you want to possibly climb to big4. Breaking TC isn't great for your CV. From what you say, sounds like the typical bigger mid-size firm. However, if you feel disillusioned already and hate every second of your life, try for same level firm/or higher.
HR and secretaries are like the nurses for the legal profession. If you make them hate you, you are done for as a junior lawyer. So maybe just try your best stay out of their crosshairs. Don't go against them lol. Just go office, do work, go back home. If you are so boring nobody will gossip about you. If in any case you interact with them, just be super nice. It might be hard to hear this when 30/35yrs are acting like this, but this is the real world. Can't change them, so just change yourself.

Need more details cos too vague. Wad do you mean by a mid tier american firm in this context? Vedder price? BCLP? Baker Botts?

Looking at the standard and profile of the trainees they hired, probably deserve 2k only anyways.

Isn't this the same firm that has a specific section in their TC application form for what prizes you have won from law school??

Many are still open. If you can't take toxicity better don't go b4 even though they are always open. Apply for one of the boutique/chinatown firms in the law society portal.
