Chinatown firms better. client facing work straight out as an NQ. No way you can get this sort of training at b4

Heard from my friends WongP is the ONLY Big 4 that offers 5k from 7th month onwards on the condition that you’re being retained by the firm. For those not being retained, too bad you will be getting 3.5k for 12 months. Unlike A&G and D&N, they will automatically pay you 5k regardless of retention.

Moreover, even if you are retained, if you later proceed to leave the firm (to in house, other firms etc), there is a clawback provision where the additional 1.5k pay (from 1.5k-5k) will be clawed back by the firm, so you will have to give back 9k to WP (if you are retained in the 6th month /or less if you are retained after the 6th month) if you want to move out.
Future trainees, think hard about how WP is treating the current trainees, and how that will affect you

Suggest Setia. Their partner made an interesting LinkedIn post on the news article about rise in trainee pay. One might guess that they are so hot that they don’t need to care about ever hiring trainees again!

"Many law firms are observed to be offering trainees S$3,500 a month for the first six months, and S$5,000 in the last six months."

Why am I not surprised that WongP play this kind of stunt and portray themselves as cheapo?! Literally treating their trainees like cheap labour. You are better off joining other big 4 cos WongP don’t give a damn to match the trainee honorarium to market rate or rather they see themselves giving trainees at “market rate” but in actual fact it is not. Anyway, retention rate at WongP is not high, probably 80%.. So better don’t take the risk to join this firm!

Feel so jaded despite it only being 2 weeks into TC. Am at a mid sized firm doing liti and corp and while most of my team is fine, there’s an assoc who is showing me attitude because I didn’t prioritise his research work and now he just treats me as non-existent in office. Also the workload has been ramping up and I feel like 1 years is just way too long .. to top it off the secretaries like to gossip about us trainees and make life harder. Should have studied harder and gone to b4. Worst of all is im getting paid 2.5k the whole year

What do you expect from a firm which hires second lowers / 2:2s?

Haha imagine earning millions a year and choosing to morally grandstand against some trainees that earn a fraction of what you earn… so drama! But we expect no less from a litigator who has spent his entire career trying to get opposing counsel to spell his name correctly hehehe
