You are lucky if your team asks you to draft subs, which is way more intellectually stimulating and meaningful than tedious work like doc review or compiling bundles.

True. But most trainees work up towards eventually drafting subs (doc review and research). 1st week doing subs means team is super understaffed or senior is a....
I only let my trainees do subs 3 months in when they are more confident and sure of themselves. But hey I'm a chinatown lawyer so what do I know.

Not about difficulty lol. You never worked at a big firm before? If you work at a smaller firm I understand the confusion.
Most larger firm seniors will not start you off with subs because they don't trust trainees until the trainees prove they are not an idiot. Also, hard to justify billings if you using trainees.
Nobody gives trainees subs to do in 1st week unless they are understaffed and there's a big case they can't complete without all-hands on deck.

I'm a trainee who just started training this year. I like to think I'm self-motivated, positive and pretty okay- not an idiot, but of course still getting used to the speed of things.
Over my first 2 weeks, I've consistently slept at 2.30-4am and wake up a few hours later for a 8.40am start.
Also, I've just got my first all nighter in the middle of it all (email came in at midnight, due by 9am) and struggled the next morning with an hour of sleep.
Oh my God.

Hi, poor soul. I hope you get through your TC without having to cancel.
But there are only certain firms which have such extreme working hours. Such as the B4, international firms and certain boutique liti firms. I am sure you are getting paid extremely well for TC standards. Hope this will be a lesson for law students. Please research your firms and teams thoroughly and make sure you are ok with the workload before signing. Meaning don't go to an SC's team and complain about having an unreasonable boss. And yes b4 pay well (3.5/5). But can you handle the workload? Just think deeply about it before making a commitment. It's all the more important since 6 months is easy to grind through, but 12 months isn't. And tbf to the high paying firms/teams, they make it abundantly clear that you are going to be a worked like crazy in the interview itself.
But either way OP, I really do empathise with you. Your hours are very extreme. Only a handful of firms are that bad. For your sake, let's just hope you team is going through high tide of cases and they really like your work product. This truly isn't sustainable, even for 12 months imo.
