Nothing is guaranteed. Law firms are businesses. If there isn't enough work to put you to good use, they will not retain you. Even partners are getting the boot, what makes your wimpy little trainee ass so precious?

For NQs, it's usually 0.5 months for firms who frontload and the 0.5 months is usually computed against the base pay (not the total monthly comp which includes the frontloaded bonus).
