Let your son make his own decisions, he’s the one who needs to live with the outcomes. As someone who considered studying in SG / taking up PSC (for monetary and familial reasons), I am extremely grateful to have studied and be working in international firms overseas with my family’s support.

If I am not mistaken, your son will not be called to the Bar during the duration of his bond. He must decide whether he wants to be a lawyer or works in the pubic sector to help in formulating policies.

For PSC legal/judicial service scholarship, the scholars will be called to the bar

I had to make the same decision two decades ago. I got the Psc and took it. Don’t regret it. Had a very meaningful and enjoyable career in the legal service. Pay is not bad too. It’s not top of the market, but it is very competitive and can live a very good life. Not difficult to move out of government into even international firms directly. Know of many psc scholars who have moved directly to international firms doing a range of different things - investigations, arbitration.

But your son must be committed to public service. At the start, hours are long, learning curve is very steep. The only way to get through that is understanding that he’s contributing to a bigger cause.

Whatever option he takes, wish you and your son best of luck.

Any thoughts on why Sidley disputes team is leaving (e.g., Friven Yeoh)?

Just saw the new TC checklist and damn. Not only will it be longer, seems like it’ll be more scrutinised / items to check off.
