sinkie firms do not generally cut people (can't exclude other forms of constructive or stealth dismissals/forcing out of certain lagging performers to trim ranks), but they will reduce pay or bonuses.

international firms don't generally touch compensation because for some reason it looks worse than slashing an army of people wholesale.

its just differences in norms.

That's why sinkie firms muddle along with low profits and low salary. They are not ruthless and profit-oriented enough to shed the deadweight when needed.

can anyone confirm that R&T n WP have an additional 3 months probation for trainees who are retained?

yes. and as you move up the ranks, you'll realize that most of the deadweight in terms of actual impact on firm's financials, is concentrated at the partner level

where did you hear this from? I am a trainee at one of the firms and was not informed of any probation in my retention email.
