Having good foundation of legal principles (obviously), understanding the transaction, and knowing what the parties’ intended outcome is.

Disagree. This is a product of slave mentality.

A good lawyer is someone who can generate clients and then give the unattractive parts to those down the stream.

Even for those that aren’t working in intl firms, they sure as hell are being treated better in Manchester / Sydney / whenever they choose plant themselves with their overseas LLB, as compared to the most prestigious b4 firms here in Singapore.

I guess people shouldn’t rain on your parade, since that’s all you guys have to go on about.
Assoc at one of the firms mentioned in the above post- beyond the interview stage, no one really cares which uni you went to, even if it's from the lower ranking unis. Even then, many firms these days care less about your uni and more your grade (speaking as a person from a low ranking uni who got interviews at all the big 4 M&A teams and some int'l firms during my TC hunt).

The only thing that matters is your work (which involve diff skills from those u learn in law school, esp in transactions), your personality, reliability as a team member, and your ability to build business for the firm (in the future, closer to partner stage).

Also, when you're actually working- you literally won't care about all this. You'll care more about working sustainably and healthily, and having time for your family (planning kids, etc.) and friends.

So, focus on the things that matter. Don't worry about the things that don't. You'll be happier and less miserable.
