fresh grad here currently doing part b
just wondering whether it's still true in B4 nowadays that you are expected not to take your annual leave during the first year?

Lol m8 the AG is a horrendous example. He was literally poached from his role as a senior banking lawyer from B4 into a role where he basically has 0 experience. This is analogous to our SAF generals. And, he knows LHL personally, and has acted as his lawyer previously. If you want to talk about meritocracy in AGC, the AG is totally off point.

Actually i just went to check the 2021 annual report for PSC. They no longer show the Scholars’ school / course of study (ie broken down by individual scholars). Can no longer see how many go oxbridge harvard.

AGC hires the children of judges. Not a meritocracy by any means.

Applied for the Undergrad SLS scheme where they place you on conditional appointment for 3 years. Went for interview a month ago and still no news from them. Should I give up hope waiting and apply again next year?

I'm interested in public service but not sure how it will really be until I start working inside and I've heard horror stories about bureaucracy in civil service.
Seems like the safest way to cover all bases is to apply for a law firm TC and get called before applying to legal service?
|
Don’t do a TC before going into Legal Service. In Legal Service, they gazette you as a DPP/State Counsel from day 1. Meaning - (1) you do full work from the start, including appearing in court, (2) you get paid the full salary, which is far more than 2-3k.
The trade off is that it takes 3 years to get called to the Bar. So the exchange rate is 1:3. If you have done 24 months in service, you can leave, but will have to do 2 months in practice to get called.
The bureaucracy is nothing horrible. You get used to it. Anyway, it’s about the same for law firms, where you have to clear work with seniors as well.
