On an unrelated note, poor guy although he still seems to be doing quite well for himself now in practice. Lesson for all my lawyer bros out there: never trust any woman that you meet on Tinder with details of your work.
How is he a POOR GUY? He is obviously a subpar lawyer.
Basic PCR rules will tell you that he wrongfully disclosed privileged and confidential documents without the approval of the client.

PCR :
You must not knowingly disclose any information which is
confidential to your client and is acquired by you (whether
from your client or from any other person) in the course of
your engagement (rule 6(2) Legal Profession (Professional
Conduct) Rules (“PCR”)).

Exceptions to this duty are set out in rule 6(3) PCR. You may
disclose confidential information in certain circumstances
described in rule 6(3)PCR, including if your client authorises
the disclosure; or if you are permitted or required by law, by
an order of court, or by a tribunal to make the disclosure. The
end of the retainer with your client is not an exception. The
duty of confidentiality owed by you to your client continues
even after the termination of the retainer

Question

Hi all,

I am considering to practise in Chinese Law. Anyone has any recommendation which firms are good in this? Should I apply for an LLM in Tsinghua or Peking?

Global Law Office is known to hire Singaporean lawyers.

Otherwise the big names are the usual lor: JunHe, KWM, Zhonglun, Junzejun, Commerce & Finance (Tongshang), Fangda (the 'Cravath' of China).

Just note that you can NEVER qualify in China unless you are a citizen, so you'll always be a second class lawyer for true China law firms/work.

Therefore there's not much point doing an LLM in Tsinghua or Peking, the firms actively hiring international lawyers for China law work are the US/UK firms who are doing US/Common Law contracts and advising.

Essentially, just pretend like you're aiming for any MC/SC firm, and see if what you're doing helps you to get into an MC/SC firm. If it doesn't, it won't help you get into China Law.

Thanks for the advice. I think this echos someone said earlier LLMs that are useful here would be from Cambridge, Oxford or Harvard.
