Not OP but that’s like saying becoming Supreme Court judge no need FCH but JLC need so JLC is more prestigious. That’s not how it works. I have no skin in this game as I’m not from either but anyone would know that a BCL is primarily good for two things - being a barrister in the UK and being an academic. Harvard is by far the more prestigious brand name in the market more generally.

Hi trainee here. Which Big 4 firm is best for starting out a liti career?

Agree with this.
Loads of people including a few here within our shores have done the BCL as a stepping stone to Harvard or other upper tier LLMs (a quick google check shows this). Don’t know of a single person who did or contemplated doing the converse.
The BCL gives probably the best jurisprudential understanding of hard law of coz. But clients don’t care about whether you are able to debate finer points of the genesis of the law of restitution. So as a practicing lawyer, prestige must be defined by the qualifications’ ability as a marketing and networking tool in one’s arsenal. So it’s no surprise which of the two comes out tops. Doesn’t help that clients don’t often appreciate why the undergraduate from Oxon graduates with an MA but the postgraduate from Oxon graduates with a BCL.
Of course all of this is largely academic in the long run cos my own experience suggests clients go for brand name lawyers when it comes to senior lawyers and not brand name schools.

hi all,
i'm a 1.5 PQE, FCH Oxbridge, currently doing comm/corp liti. since covid i've done more and more R&I-related work, find it quite interesting and so would like to do more of.
since the B4 are currently bleeding at the junior level, figured now's a good time. i'm interested in applying to a B4 R&I dept/team. Rankings generally say that the B4 are equals, but i've heard around from ppl that WongP/R&T are particularly strong now
currently leaning towards WongP (mostly because of pay) but would appreciate any insights from ppl in the know. so far have heard good things but anyone can advise? - how good, type of work, bosses, culture etc
in terms of any specifics, since i do enjoy liti and would like to stay close to it (looking more for a specialisation than to move away from disputes), would also be good to know if WongP is balanced or focuses on non-contentious. thanks

I hope you don’t mind and not asking this out of disrespect but out of genuine curiosity: if you are Oxbridge FCH, why are you not already in big 4? Did you go to a niche outfit?

Happy to discuss if you are genuine. I am an assoc in the WP R&I team, drop me a PM on linkedin and I will be happy to address your queries there. In case you get the wrong one, I'll ask around the team in a day or two if they received a PM.

I feel that most, if not all, of the lawyers in the industry are deserted by tech advancement - NFT, Metaverse, 4G, Web 3.0, omnichannel marketing, blockchain, AR/VR. U try to ask those partners about these and they will stare at u like you're some aliens.
No new initiative in the firm to upgrade the lawyers' knowledge and to keep abreast with the world's development. So sad that many lawyers, including SCs, incarcerate themselves within their bubbles. This is so obvious when clients are making small talks about how crypto surge during the Russian invasion and 3 partners in the call, including one SC, dunno what to say. and keep saying "really?", "is it?" "ah, ok".
Cham liao, the world is moving ahead and ditching us lawyers who do thing the Paleolithic way
