Really depends on which firm you end up at. The top white shoe firms are very demanding - even if, on paper, the minimum billable hours are 2000, the firm will nonetheless expect you to bill 2200 hours, if not you’ll be out before you know it.

It's always possible to switch, issue is that IP is a niche field, whereas Corp is generally quite wide. For e.g. even if you specialise in M&A corp, you can still be considered for a wide range of corp work, including gen Corp. If you take IP, and you want to exit private practice, you generally have only a handful of coys that want IP candidates (and you will be competing with Corp candidates anyway), or you have to first jump to Corp then to Inhouse.
