don't all big firms retain like 80 90% of their trainees??
hard truth - you aint cut out for big firms then. or maybe your partner is a weirdo. but it's really not the end of the world. try smaller firms. pay sucks and perhaps lesser prestige but everyone gotta start somewhere. work your way up again. a career in law is a hard and long one. keep hustling and find that interest/passion.

I don't think OP is necessarily "not cut out for big firms". Sometimes, not getting retained is a matter of bad luck. I was let go from a Big4 firm under weird AF circumstances and managed to get a job at an international firm (albeit not MC / WS firm). Am doing fine now.
But yes you are very correct - a career in law is long and difficult. Having a passion for it (or at least an interest in it) will go a long way.
