Most will fall somewhere in between.
Holding down a part time job with regular hours may be difficult, but would largely depend on the amount of work you receive at your firm. At some places you may not be expected to work during the weekend at all. You can perhaps consider ad hoc jobs such as food delivery, which may provide a more flexible schedule.

Thank you for your input! I will be commencing my TC from the middle of '22 but it will still be 6 months. so I will plan for 6 months of TC income and 2 months of call break with no income just in case.
and yeah probably safer for me to look for ad hoc jobs just in case I have to do work over weekends

If you need money then don’t take call break and try to negotiate for full assoc pay pending call like what the bigger firms used to do. You can also nego to take your call break next time as unpaid leave.

noted thanks! the firm in question is not a big firm so idk how effective negotiating will be but I think I will ask to work as a legal executive during call break at minimum. Your latter option of taking call break next time as unpaid leave is also a good one

Thoughts? Why would any counsel in their right mind think it was acceptable to do this?

Judgment here: supremecourt.gov.sg/docs/default-source/module-document/judgement/-2021-sgca-16-pdf.pdf
Liquidators and lawyers from R&T and TKQ severely criticised.

read the judgment this morning and oh man - it was damning. CA went for them hard.
I wonder if there will be any follow-up action like a referral to lawsoc etc etc. If there are any juniors on the team, i really pity them...
