Comparing life of research analyst and software engineer
If given a choice between 2 career paths -- research analyst and software engineer:
Which one is likely to be busier day to day with less work life balance to get off work at 6 pm?
Which one is likely to allow one more freedom to work independently and plan own schedule?
Any advice or comment to share?
My current understanding of the work:
Research analyst
- Produce research reports (regular and ad-hoc) for management from data using the software tools and systems from software engineer.
- Give briefings/presentations to customers, interested parties and management
- Operations based
- Stress: may need to fulfill urgent research based on large volume of data or information at times for reporting
Software engineer
- Develop software and setup the server infrastructure to deliver the software to be used by research analyst.
- Conduct briefings, project updates and training sessions to end users.
- Project based (likely)
- Stress: may need to rush urgent features or requirements especially during delivery milestones and deal with unreasonable customers
