Our Poll Results: 45% Fresh Graduates Jobless
In the graduate employment survey conducted by Salary.sg, 45% of the respondents indicated that they are without jobs.
In this jobless group, 60% are actively looking for a job, while the remaining are not. The poll was conducted over about 10 days with a better-than-expected 439 responses. http://www.salary.sg/wp-content/uplo...sults-2009.png As for the 55% (or so) with jobs, the median income is between $2,001 and $3,000. Not too bad. Contrast our survey results with those (overly) positive-looking ones from the 3 local universities. Note: Figures do not add up to 100% due to rounding. http://www.salary.sg/2009/our-poll-r...uates-jobless/ |

It's quite true that many recent graduates whom I know personally are without jobs. Many have sent out tons of resumes but only a few got interviews. Only the luckiest ones have jobs.
Does anyone here have similar experience? What's the feeling on the ground? Seems to me stock & property prices and the Great Singapore Sale do not give the correct picture of the gloomy situation on the ground. |
Sadly, there are still many grads still intensively looking for jobs. Many have given up on joining the private sector (MNCs) and have decided to start off in government agencies or even be teachers until the job market recovers. Half my friends are jobless.

I'm a 1st class hons and i'm jobless too. Go figure.

don't be picky

Laid off? Don’t worry. 25,000 jobs in the market, says Manpower Minister : The Online Citizen - a community of singaporeans Minister Gan also said some time ago: "... if in a crisis situation, you are willing to sit at home and do nothing for one year, not doing anything, that means you are not very flexible ..." Be flexible. Go be a toilet cleaner and stop complaining. |
degree
what courses have better employment rate? I don't believe the graduate employment survey.

45% Fresh Graduates Jobless? Come on lar.
If you are fresh grad and jobless, you WILL have time to come to Salary.sg forum to take survey. The other working graduates are too busy doing OT. Remember our Labour Minster says Singaporean must be productive, 10 person must do 12 person job. Next year, 8 person do 12 person job. The year after next year, 6 person do 12 person job... ...future (-2) person do 12 person's job... Why not change the heading. "55% fresh graduates who come and take survey are employed and are not doing 12 person's job". They Scholars? Bosses son? Or "45% fresh graduates who come and take survey are unemployed". They see the higher pay posted here and not willing to lower their expectation. Minster : You must lower your expectation, expect low pay to remain employable. 10 person do 12 person job. Freshie : What about you? Minster : I am talent (who ask you cannot study? Or is familee). Without me, you won't even have low pay jobs to lower your expectation for. We need 3 to do 1 person job, because important job and decisions need to think thrice. |

Haiz. I am a fresh grad and tried offering $200 per hour to old uncles last week. Quite lucrative. Many of my girl friends are turning into the flesh trade too. Given that all of us cannot find jobs!

No 3k is not unreasonable. It's the mass supply of accountants to be that's unreasonable. You might want to either find a smaller accounting firm that pays better, or to do something other than accounting. |

there is no trust, only selfish interests in this industry. i was in this line for 12 years until the industry became too toxic nowadays. under table transactions and so on. those with top sales, how many of them were through legit means? |
I think can add those bank rm/financial advisers to the list

many of my peers were unable to find a job. but I was lucky to have accepted a role in the
stanchart graduate programme. the pay was 5.8k. but thanks to covid they rescinded my offer and now most of the bank vacancies are closed. what other relevant jobs are there for me now? i'm worried if I do something unrelated, it'll be too difficult to rejoin banking when the virus subsides |
