Default technical cybersecurity in public sectors

hi,

any professionals currently dealing with technical aspects of cybersecurity in public sectors? I understand that public sectors are usually not so hands-on and more of vendor management.

Any one can share which agencies (civil service) that are more technical? Fresh graduate here keen to join civil service but concern of skill transfer-ability

Don't think there are any... except maybe for defence? Where its too sensitive to outsource. But otherwise, cyber in public sector modtly not technical roles...

I have my reasons for choosing to serve in the public sectors. I'm currently undergoing my internship with a well-known vendor in cybersecurity and I have came across various public sector cybersecurity "professionals" that is an embarassment to the profession. Hence, I would want to join one that knows what they are doing to avoid rotting indefinitely just like some dinosaurs i see back during NS

Nobody joins the civil service to do cutting edge technical cybersecurity. I don't know what sort of special reasons you have for so called 'serving' in gov organizations, but if it's the usual stuff like job security, high starting pay, sponsorship for studies etc. then it comes with the territory.

If you cannot take it and want to specialize in niche technical career paths, then go find a proper IT MNC or if cannot go for the small specialized tech startups.

Staying relevant or staying current? If staying relevant then you want to be in a company that invests in your training/ojt while giving you lots of opportunities for exposure to deepen knowledge (ie larger specialist companies). If staying current, public sector would do, but go for those agencies that hv more interactions with other agencies/international bodies. Don't expect to stay relevant in public service esp if you are looking to stay long term although the experience can be useful for cv building.

Just moi 2 cents..
