journalism as a career
anyone in this field care to share more abt it? like the companies (mediacorp, sph, bloomberg, reuters etc.) or the pay and working hours? i tink i'm fairly articulate and creative when it comes to writing and my english proficiency is good though it may not seem so as i'm just typing anonymously on the internet now
currently a finance major and my first choice would be financial journalism although I don rule out politics or sports as well thank you! |
long hours, low pay, always stressed from chasing that story and trying to meet the crazy deadlines and often demanding bosses (aka editors). It's not a career for the faint-hearted, and those who stay for long are really because of passion. As a journalist friend says, "I still get a kick out of seeing my byline in the papers every time."
Just a word of caution - journalism is not really creative writing (you should become a fiction writer if you are into creative writing). Journalism is about telling real stories of people in a way that every reader can relate to. |
