Which tech career offer to choose?
What role/offer to choose as a new graduate who intend to switch to a product/project management role in future? BE @ Alibaba or SRE @ Tencent
Hi,
I am a fresh graduate in Singapore and have 2 offers on hand.
1) SRE by Tencent
2) Backend Developer by Alibaba.
Total Compensation is roughly the same for both offers
but
Tencent total package is only slightly higher but the RSUs portion of Alibaba package is slightly higher compared to its base salary.
In future, I highly see myself switching to a leadership/ management and not continue in the similar technical coding role.
Which offer should I choose?

You can always change your jobscope a year after joining the company.

Tencent is paying more. And is much bigger than Alibaba.
But the jobscope is like a typical SRE. On-call, maintenance, CI CD, deployment, scaling, build infrastructure tool, ensure things are not down.
Alibaba role is backend where you develop features.
Seems its easier to get other roles in future if ur a backend compared to an SRE.
I looked around and found some PMs were ex-backend but didnt find many who were ex-SRE. So backend seems more versatile and flexible?
Both had around 3 live technical coding interviews.
But not sure if can change role within tencent later on.

Update
Tencent is paying more overall. And is much bigger than Alibaba.
Tencent pay more base and low RSU and low bonus. Alibaba pay less base but more bonus and more RSU (still low overall) - all bonuses are performance base for both
