its not a consultancy, more like IT consultancy.

you cant earn 20k in accenture unless you are like 20yrs veteran.

whereas in real consulting, the starting pay is 10.5k
First, IT projects pay more than strategy projects (don't believe me, go ask around in the industry) That's why accenture MDs would rather chase after multi-million dollar IT projects than $300K strategy projects.

Second, there are people who become senior managers at Accenture before 30 years old, earning $15K. Hitting $20K won't take 20 years.

Third, Bain/BCG/McK starting pay is $6K. Your number is slightly higher than investment banking starting pay.

$20k salary is nothing to accenture, most high flyers reach there after 5-6 years exp.

$20k is too high for 5-6 years. More like 10k+

Having spent 2.5 years as an Analyst in the consulting team, i can say that lifestyle really depends on the projects you get on to. Some projects are great - in terms of people, interesting work. If your unlucky, then its the exact opposite.

The worst is when your time on the project is coming to an end and there's an interesting project you wont to work on. But you manager ends up extending your stay on the old project. This is ****, they do this so often!

Also, networking within the firm is more important in getting onto the projects you like. Cannot just rely on the HR scheduler.. towards the end of my time there, i realized that they dont really have their eye on the more interesting work. These get staffed based on who you've worked with in the past & who you know.

I've seen some Analysts join & just get **** project after project. Making them really dislike Accenture and quitting within the year or two. This is just some plain unlucky ****...

one more point - Accenture SG office (in what i've seen) mostly does technology consulting projects - as in, systems implementations etc.. Though there is an Mgmt Conslt arm, its not very good. Most of their projects tend to be in the wider ASEAN region, which is fine.. but its never the juicy pieces of work that the tier-1, or tier-2 strategy firms do.

So, even if your an Mgmt consult aligned, and there's no projects in the pipeline -you end up doing technology work to keep your chargeability up. Otherwise, your bonus will be shittier than the usual **** and they'll probably sack you.. Happened to two analyst colleagues of mine.

Tbh, Accenture does pay better than the Big4. But exit opps for Big4 guys tend to be better than Accenture, in my experience. Unless you've been with Accenture long enough to specialise in something.

Consultng tiers:
Accenture is not a tier-2 mgmt conslt firm. Don't get me wrong, its a nice place to work. Most people are genuinely good & smart. Also, if your interested in tech consulting, I think Accenture is probably one of the best places to be. Its the goldman sachs of that world.

Also, there is more money in tech consulting than pure strategy work. At least, when you look at the volume of work handed out..

Frankly speaking, can't really compare MBB's to Accenture. They're just so different.

Tier 1 - Mckinsey, Bain, BCG (MBB)
Tier 2 - At Kearney, OW, LEK (in some markets, people would argue for Monitor-Deloitte, STrategy& )
Tier 3 - Big 4, Accenture, etc.. (As you notice, tier-3 firms don't do just plain consulting work, but a load of other stuff).

Also, salary structure

Analyst - 3.8-5 (progression from yr1-2-3..as an analyst)
Consultant - 6-8
Manager - 10-12
Sr.Manager - 14-... (i dont so much from this point on)
Partner or 'MD'- (there are at least 4 levels in what i know).. so obviously, it increases from junior to senior..

Default just saying

I have a friend who works in ACN for 6years. he was subcon to johnson & johnson project for years til he was promoted to manager recently. he just quit and join Apple.

ACN can be taxing like the big 4 (since it was part of the big 5). but it doesnt mean you need to stay there forever. for me I am still doing SAP practice away from ACN, life is still good
