It stings. I won’t lie. It’s tough seeing the effort, late nights, and emotional energy not translating into the outcome I was aiming for. It’s hard not to take it personally, even when I know promotions are complex and based on many factors.
But if there’s anything consulting has taught me, it’s to take feedback, pivot, and keep pushing forward.
So, here I am — asking for help. If you’ve been through this before, I’d genuinely appreciate your advice. How did you bounce back? What did you do differently? What helped you grow into the next version of yourself?
To everyone who got promoted this round — I’m genuinely happy for you. Your success is inspiring, and I hope to stand alongside you someday too.
Onward and upward. One step at a time.

I raged internally daily for a year, made sure my boss and his boss AND his boss know how capable I am, then found a new job that pays much higher than here, left them yearning for my skills but can't retain me.
Couldn't have bounced back up without a huge element of luck no doubt, but it was also huge bad luck for me to have been passed over for promos over my stint here given my capabilities.
So I guess the first step to bounce back up is to realise it's not that you have not done enough, but rather how the career system is structured in Accenture is just flawed. This is compounded by the fact that the higher management WANT it to be flawed this way, rather appeasing shareholders than capable employees. Rather keep the bottom 25% than to keep the top 25%. It is just a growing cesspool with capable people like me fed up and leaving left right center, leaving behind status quo loving wanting to hide in bench get free money people behind.
Just make sure that you are someone with actual capabilities (not blindly putting in the hours doing PPT just because your boss tells you to kind), and when the opportunity comes you get to GTFO for good.

Hey, as someone who's been denied for 2 cycles now, if you've truly done your best, that's what matters. In the current climate, unfortunately promo decisions aren't entirely personal. How I've helped myself is evaluating whether I've learnt anything during my time in the firm because at least then that's something they can't take away from me - my skills and knowledge. I'm not sure how many cycles you've been through but for me, I worked on the feedback from each round and was still not given the promotion and each time new reasons came up so honestly I have chosen to just focus on what I want to do and learn and just waiting for the opportune exit. Most importantly is to not let it determine your worth!!!

I want to ask the expert here
is there a way for me to be promoted, but I maintain the current responsibility? I do not want to take up the next level responsibility?
is there a way to do that?

Got. You just need good luck. Very doable here in accenture where who gets promoted does not make sense

Totally possible.
In my current team of ~8, all the cl11-cl9 are doing the same work and report to a cl7. I feel unfair everyday doing the same or more work than the cl9, but drawing cl10 salary.

If you have not worked in other companies before, I can openly share with you that Accenture is one of those companies that you can do that. Though once you are CL7 and above, then you need to do sales, cannot hide.
In comparison, in most companies out there, promotions is rly based on you proving you are at the next level *consistently* and *impactfully*. Accenture is just getting ur boss to put u up for promo, and getting a good PL (who may not even be in the same proj as you) to speak for you well

Being in the firm for over 3 years now, for promotion to happen, all stars need to align.
Need to have the “headcount” for promotion, your direct manager+ project need to push you, CC need to push you. If one is missing then can kiss goodbye to promotion.
To make things worse, everything is not transparent. By the time you get the results, there is nothing you can do about it.

How do I even know if I really get put up for promotion? Based on what CC / direct boss tell me?
Funny if you just keng stay on bench VS you put in 100% effort chiong , you still get the same results. (No promotion)
