used to work in a journalism role there. horrible place, only good if you really have a passion for journalism, singapore style. very talented people there but management is horrible. plus the news industry is a sinking ship man, i wouldn't advice anyone on joining unless you are seriously damn good and damn passionate about journalism.

Hi Morning,

Thanks for sharing :)

Are there much transferable skills after a few yrs in journalism? Did u move on to a role of similar nature I.e. writing?

Do the non-journalism staff have similar experiences?

most ex journalists move to pr/corp comms, as the transferrable skills are similar ie. writing, plus most pr agencies love ex-journalists because they have contacts in the journalism world, which will be really useful for people in pr who have to work with journalists. i have to say i truly hate pr work so i didn't move to pr.

non-journalism staff...that's a whole different thing la, it's like any other corporate job. but sph isn't earning as much money as it used to and as i said the journalism industry is sinking so i'd say look elsewhere too.

bonus has been dropping for the past 3 years. basic in sph is so low and increment so little w/o the bonus the package is pathetic.

the only business doing very well is property side, so try & get a job in the property unit if can.

Toh Yong Chuan CASE Vice President \ SPH sub editor is a perpetual Police impersonator back in year 2014. I working as a legal executive is going to upload Toh Yong Chuan 2 criminal evidences forensic done in UK with Toh Yong Chuan finger print in it on 31 Mar 2020. However, if Toh Yong Chuan is willing to reimburse my boss (the victim) S$90k first on the cost of the forensic evidence. He is willing to let him off and not to report him.
