Pls advise me.Should i quit?

I'm currently employed in a MNC getting quite a good pay. But i don't see much prospects down the road for me in this field and i'm not learning any much more in this area.

I had recently go for another job interview in the offshore industry but the monthly pay is much much lower than what i had been getting as of present, but overall the gross pay in the offshore coy will be much higher if include all bonuses AWS OT etc..

Can anyone advises me whether should i look at the future and make the jump or should i just be content with the current high salary but stay stagnant throughout?

More details on your situation? E.g:
- Title, Job scope & Responsibility
- Salary (Old and New job)
- Age & Years of experience in the industry/company

I'd say compare the whole package, not the monthly pay.

also need to consider OT time since you mentioned that. After normalizing with actual working hour, which one offer higher pay/hour. Of course you also need to think about whether OT is an option in the near future, for example if you starting a family or having young kids, then OT may be very difficult.

To me if not too much family attachment, I'd always choose the one with higher overall package, given that the pay/hour isn't much lower the other direction.

both are engineer role
present salary difference with new offer salary will be around 700 dollar difference. current salary 4k, new offer salary is only approx 3300. But current salary of 4k no AWS only around 2-3 mths bonus while new coy monthly is low, but will have AWS on top of bonus of around 5-7 mths depending and also OT pay. In the broader picture the new coy package will offer much more.

Im basically moving into a new industry, from construction industry to off shore oil gas industry. Responsibility will be around same i guess, managing ah neh etc. I had no family commitments as of now and don't mind the long working hours since construction industry i'm in right now is about the same. Most impt thing is i don't really see any much more future in my current field and off shore oil gas has a much greater future for the foreseeable future

The way i see your post, at heart you are already decided. you have been praising this new job since the 1st post and you seem unhappy with your current job. so i would say you are just looking for someone to support your choice. if that is the case, i say do pursue your new job, if anything else i think you will be happier, and happiness will always beat monetary value eventually.

The general rule is that a pay cut (monthly gross) is expected if you are changing industries.

On the other hand, you have several transferable skills that can be applied at the new job. Try playing more on your strengths and negotiating up.

But it looks like you're decided already anyways.

how can offshore o&g pay you less than construction for the same kind of job? either the offshore company lowball you or it's for a lower position.. also what kind of offshore o&g job is this? marine? engineering? construction? do you have to go out onto platforms and vessels?

$700 is quite a lot for your monthly salary although annual package is the same. suggest you try to nego and try to settle in between.

My friend, please do not take job with lower basic salary, it could be harmful for career. Bonus may not same every year. Basic is very important for future growth and career. The bonus is higher because it is very hard working job, so it cannot be offset with the package. Just my opinion...................
