Government cant take all industry under its wings. It may hire a couple thousands more engineers for its infrastructure expansion. But that won't last for ever and there is no real needs for a strong engineering work force locally if the manufacturing isn't gettting back to its prime time, which IMO is very unlikely looking into the future as Singapore has no market, or supply chain or cheap labor that's downstream the R&D activity where engineers are needed.

hint: govt said biomedical science and life sciences would be the next big thing some time ago.
Look at now. well , at least engineering sector is still doing better than the above

Engineering will never be a top career, its gona be in my opinion, always average or slightly above average at best when we are looking at a national average.
Heard from a friend of mine even the professional engineers accredited by PEB don't earn much these days, not too sure need to verify with the members here cause last I remember they still get paid a few hundred bucks per endorsement for a bucket load of responsibilities, still quite lucrative if they still have that.
For aspiring and money hungry kids, please stay out.
But for people who just want to lead normal life and have a normal nice 3 meals daily, you found the right place.

Contrarian strategy wins most of the time
It's never smart to chase the trend
