Default substantial changes in verbal vs written offer - what to do?

Hi,
I applied for a manager role in a local bank. It was supposed to be a perm role. After the interview, HR called me and said "is 6500 $ pm fine with you?" I said okie. When I went to collect the written offer, the role was a 6-month contract with 6000 pm and no joining or contract-end bonus. What to do? I agreed for a different package on phone.

Most banks do not negotiate after making the offer. Poor Samantha. She should continue where she is, or settle for whatever this bank is offering.

Moral of the story - Make sure everything is clear before the written offer comes.

It does not matter which bank it is. Samantha needs to request them to revert to what had been discussed verbally. The trouble is that sometimes that HR manager has changed and there is no record of previous discussion. Good luck

Can you prove that on phone they mentioned a regular offer but later they changed their statement? If so, you can soo them. Eitherwise, tough luck.

Companies have the right to withdraw their offer, EVEN after you have signed the offer letter. There's nothing to stop them from changing a verbal offer.

The only thing you can do, is to stay calm and do not get emotional. Use logical arguments. Remind them of their verbal promise. Tell them the market salary rate for your job.

Never get emotional or show any sign of immaturity.

Default take a firm stand

I had a similar issue with one of the employers. I walked out of the HR cabin - demanding that they meet my conditions or I will not join them. I have a job already. In 2 weeks these blokes called me and asked me to sign an offer on modified conditions.

Ok thanks for the detailed info!! I had no idea the security sector paid so well! If I want to join as Security Associate 1, Do they recognize distance learning MBA or must I get a MBA from NUS/NTU/SMU?
