anyone can declare themselves as harvard graduates. based on the online application, it is better to access the person physically for fit of work. maybe ask some questions on the spot to see what jobs might be suitable. otherwise anyone can just request for a ceo role.

unlike jobseekers, these companies have a reputation to keep. should the candidate turns out to be a fraud or scam, they have a lot of explanation to do.

1 day of your time in exchange for a career opportunity is it too much to ask for? i think you can always go down after work or take half the day off.
LOL this guy obviously dunno anything.

Default Waste of time

I wouldn't waste my time on recruitment firms unless they have a role which is not advertised anywhere else.

Most recruitment consultants don't understand the roles they are hiring for and couldn't be bothered to update candidates after their resumes have been submitted to the hiring firm UNTIL the candidate gets shortlisted. (the MIA syndrome, which is really unprofessional and childish in my opinion)

Had many bad experiences with recruitment firms.

They insisted you to sign an agreement contract with silly terms such as need to pay for a placement fee, compensate them if you leave with X months, etc.

Most of them called them headhunter are actually telemarketer who just want a copy of your resume and has little or no knowledge on the industry they are helping to hire.

Some of them would tell you to lie about your working experiences so that you can secure the job in the interview.

My take now is:

1) "Hello, I am a headhunter", put down that phone instantly

2) Can you forward me a copy of your resume? Sure, give me a copy of the job description from the hiring company first

3) Accept invitation from linkedin from recruiters selectively

4) Let's talk. Sure, but never in your office, but at a time and place of my choice.

Nik, you might want to try Adecco. From what I've heard, they have one of the best reputations in the industry and they *do* look at your industry.

The higher end jobs will mostly not be openly advertised, instead done via headhunters. You have to know which headhunters are worth working with. I'm from the commodities sector, there are a few headhunters who specialize in this field. So i just work with these headhunters and only few of them who are good.

I'm very open to receiving calls from headhunters as i also want to know which company in my industry is hiring. Commodities industry isn't very big so to a certain extent, most people know each other. Such information is good to have.

There are the crappy recruit express kinds of recruiters and there are the discreet and highly specialized ones like smaller boutique firms.

Default used PDPA to your advantage

Hi,
The newly implemented Personal Data Protection Act will help you. If anyone has any personal data about you, you can tell them to explain to you how they are using the personal data and if they have shared this personal data with anyone. If there is no response, lodge a complaint with PDPC. .pdpc.gov.sg. they will make sure that the headhunter responds.

My 2c.

The problem I face many years ago when looking for jobs via recruitment agencies (Kelly Services, Recruit Express, as well as those who advertise on jobscentral etc etc) is that when you send in your resume, they still ask you to go down to fill in forms even though they've no jobs for you?

Anyone faced the same issue? My leave is precious and can't possibly take leave every now and then to go down to their company to fill in forms for nothing etc.

Tks!

Hi Nik

Not all recruitment agencies have the same process. There are recruitment agency that can help you with your job search. If you are in Hong Kong or Asia, Silicon Valley Associates Recruitment can help you find the job. You can visit their website svarecruitment.com and search for the job that you are looking. You can also post your CV on the website or contact their recruiter to help you with the process.
