Exclamation 3 years is a lot of time wasted helping another to build up his company...

Bro, walk away lah...this joker boss is simply trying to squeeze as much from you as possible while you are still young n belly full of fire...3 years is a lot of time wasted helping another to build up his company...

Suggestion,

1) start your own company - at least you are fighting for yourself, thus more rewarding...
2) find govt/govt-linked jobs...better starting pay / safer career path

End of the day, please take care of yourself n DON'T ALLOW OTHER PPLE esp evil bosses to sweet talk you into giving up your precious youth and TIME for the benefits of the company...and for how much...$1K nia...wah lau eh...this is really sad if you need to take up a $1k job (when u r a grad...dnt shortchg ur self)

Work for KFC or NTUC Fairprice management trainee scheme think higher pay n similar more learning experiences than the above u mentioned...

Take care!

if basic is really 1k, please look elsewhere.

whatever he promise you now may not always be true. you'll regret more getting only 1k and realize it's a **** job with no value add.

Dear all, thank you for all of your valuable inputs and opinions. I have since went for the second interview and am back with more salary information, but just to clarify some questions above:

Profile
  • Fresh Commerce Grad (Specializing in Management) - No honours
  • Mainly HR & IT Training Experience, Minimal Sales from internships/part time jobss

3 Year-Salary Package Details

Mar 14: $1,000
Apr to Jun 14: $1,500
Jul to Sep 14: $2,000
Oct to Dec 14: $2,500

Jan to Jun 15: $3,000
Jul to Dec 15: $3,500

Jan to Jun 16: $4,000
Jul to Dec 16: $4,500

Effectively, $109,000 over a period of 34 months (Mar 14 - Dec 16), averaging out to be $3,205/mth over 3 years.
  • There'll be CPF
  • I'll be the first hire to be in this "New" pay structure.
  • Boss says this 3-year plan will reflect accordingly in contract.
  • Possibility of increasing/decreasing (but dependent on performance - which the Boss say must see first but if I'm good he's definitely willing to pay more)

Benefits
  • No Annual Leaves (but can take unlimited amount of Unpaid Leaves, up to individual - rationale is people tend to abuse AL/SL)
  • Other than the above, nothing else was mentioned or that I know of.
  • Boss asks me to factor in the Training part where employees are sent to multiple trainings (which costs money and up to $5,000/pax a year - ask me to compare with pees which might not have such trainings; includes stuffs like branding/sales & marketing/social media/personnel development)
  • Boss also asks me to factor in the part where he will be a Direct Mentor to me (which he explains costs money technically cause he invests his time, citing lawyers have consultation fees etc)

Career Progression
  • After this 3 years programme, should be looking at either Senior Consultant/AM role. (but can be faster depending on how fast I learn/perform)
  • Year 4-6, manager role and how to manage business etc.
  • Year 6 onwards, possibility for GM role.

Appreciate any comments please. Thank you.

On my phone so I shall keep my reply short. Only gonna comment on no AL. AL is part of the benefit package and hence there is no such thing as abusement of AL. you're entitled to it as part of your benefits. If he wants to encourage people to nt use their AL, allowing encashment would have the same effect. Average mnc and banks AL is 24+2, which amounts to 10% of a years working days. That means you must take 10% off your renumuation to account for that, amounting about 2.9k a month. Your boss might package it nicely to make it easy to swallow but it's obvious this is a way for him to inflate his pay package to appear more competitive.

I got to say your boss is not simple though, definitely good at packaging stuff in various different ways. Can see why he is the boss of a consulting firm.

No go for me.

Basically you're shown the best scenario. You're giving him the opportunity to slow your increment once every 3 months. He can just tell you "oh you didn't really do well this quarter, $250 increment, next quarter work harder"

What about bonus?

And no annual leave? What he mean by abuse? It's for us to decide when to use it. We are entitled to it. Come on you deserve a better firm.

How does "no annual leave" and "can take unlimited unpaid leave" work? Each time you decide to take a day off, your S$1,000 a month salary gets deducted S$45 (i.e. S$1,000 / 22 - I am assuming you work 22 days a month)? For the sake of your sanity I hope you are working a five day work week.

The way I see it - your boss is getting someone enthusiastic and eager for cheap. It's a good deal for him. After all, only someone who is enthusiastic and eager will work for what appears arguably to be a pittance.

What's your role supposed to be actually? Does management trainee mean over-glorified personal assistant since you are working for your boss directly? How many people are there in this organisation? Why isn't your boss willing to invest - and I use this word very loosely - in these other people and is considering someone else instead i.e. you. I can see why he's prepared to take in a new person if it is for cheap. To put it bluntly, is there anything special about you and not anyone else in the organisation which makes him want to supposedly groom you into a General Manager? Or does he tell the same thing to everyone else?

Are the employees all on the same scheme i.e. they are each paid around S$1,000? That makes you not special. Or if they are not and are paid anywhere from say S$2,000 and above, why is your boss being particularly stingy with this potential hire (especially one who is to be groomed as GM)?

I am afraid I haven't seen anything that makes me keen.

besides the comments in this forum, i suggest you speak to your parents/friends regarding this to hear their opinions as well. because personally i do not find the deal attractive.

if you are currently unemployed and have been job hunting for a few months and this is the only offer, then maybe you can consider.
